‘To Skin a Cat’ Trailer
‘To Skin A Cat’ is a documentary film being produced by Greg Lomas and Colwyn Thomas that addresses the loss of leopard populations to the illegal skin trade in southern Africa. Today, elders within South Africa’s Zulu community that practice the Shembe religion traditionally wear animal skins as part of their religious attire, and there has been a recent spike in demand for leopard skins among members of South Africa’s Zulu community who practice the Shembe religion. Sadly, the remaining 300 leopards living within South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province where the Zulu community resides are being heavily persecuted as a result of this practice. ‘To Skin A Cat’ follows Panthera’s Munyawana Leopard Project Field Scientist, Tristan Dickerson, as he attempts to create a high-quality and affordable faux leopard skin to reduce demand among South African Zulu community members for more expensive, real leopard skins and ensure a future for South Africa’s leopards.
